About Awntee Maine

Shawn 12/1/04

I moved to Lake Oswego in 1971 when my mother Doris Ramey helped open Lakeridge high school as the coordinator of college counseling. I graduated from Portland State in 1986 with a BA in Business Admin/Marketing.  My first major was Spanish Education.  I studied Spanish for 6 years and lived in Mexico. A passion in life other than animals has always been the Spanish language.  Me encanta! My love and compassion for animals is a lifelong journey. I have worked in the wine industry, real estate, corporate sales, veterinary care, and the hospitality industry.

Homeless cats have always flocked to me. I have neutered and spayed more strays than I can count. Of course each time I tell myself after the procedure is done, I will return the cat back outside, well... that never happens. Either they became mine or I placed them with friends. Incidentally I do not believe in outdoor cats in this day and age.

I decided to do something fun and enjoyable that would benefit others. That is how Awntee Maine's Pet Sitting came to be. I will describe what my services include, pricing, and compare rates.

My mission is to provide the best quality care to all animals. I will perform my services diligently and responsibly and adhere to the wishes of my clients and their owners. All animals at Awntee Maine's Pet Sitting will receive treatment in  a caring and loving  manner as if they were my own.

I love Maine Coons

poppy.jpg (12376 bytes)An experience I will cherish forever is the  three kittens I cared for that didn't  even have their eyes open when they were found. My friend’s son found these kittens near the railroad tracks in Tualatin.  I fed these babies every three hours for 4 weeks until my vet, Dr. Groves, told me to stop bottle-feeding and make them eat on their own.  I really learned to appreciate the hard work provided by a mother cat in order to raise healthy babies.

An avid backyard bird watcher, I belong to the Portland and National Audubon Societies.  Especially interested in Raptors, I have been watching the Portland Peregrine Falcon’s on the Freemont Bridge and other Peregrines on live web cams throughout the United States and Canada for the last 4 years.

Aurora.jpg (28361 bytes)I have been corresponding via email with the Canadian Peregrine Foundation since 1998, and have provided financial support to them for their effort to protect these endangered birds from extinction. In honor of my support they awarded me my very own certificate of Adoption for "Preston", a Peregrine chick from Ottawa.

I have 7 Maine Coon Cats. Sonni, Jesse, Redgi, Cody, Dancer, Misty, and Luke. C'mon, it isn't that many?

Why did I decide to go into the pet sitting business?

I love animals and find myself spending the majority of my waking hours involved with them. I can usually be found playing with my Maine Coons, taking animal photos, watching my backyard birds, or going on bird watching hikes to Sauvé's Island, and other areas.  Since much of my free time activities are related to animals I want to make a career of caring for other people's pets too.

Since Dr. Bob Groves retired, Dr.Takashima, at Parkway Veterinary Hospital has been our vet.  He and his staff have been very comforting and supportive of me in many good times and sad times too.  No one understands better than I the love an compassion we feel for our pets. Enough about me. Now I would like to meet you and your pets.

  Thank you,

Awntee Maine
